समयः Summary in English

Time holds an important place in our day-to-day life. Students already know English numbers. Thus, this chapter has been included to enable students to tell the time in Sanskrit. In std. 6 the only expectation is that students should be able to tell (say) the time in complete hours (o’clock).

In Lesson 4 सड्ख्या students have learnt, numbers from १ (एक) to १२ (द्वादश). Simply by adding the word वादनम् to the number name is enough to tell the time. For e.g. सप्तवादनम् – Seven o’clock, द्वादशवादनम् – Twelve o’clock, etc..

By adding the word वादने to the number name we can say at this time – (at ………. O’clock). For e.g., चतुर्वादने – at 4 o’clock, षडवादने – at 6 o’clock, etc.

घटी – घटी कायन्तम – clock. वादनम् – o’clock. वादने – at ……….. O’clock. सूची- needle, hand of a clock, दीर्घसूची – long hand (of the clock), minute hand, लघुसूची – small hand (of the clock), hour hand.

સમય વ્યવહારમાં મહત્ત્વનું સ્થાન ધરાવે છે. વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ગુજરાતીમાં સંખ્યાના જ્ઞાનથી પરિચિત છે. તેથી ઘડિયાળમાં જોઈને સંસ્કૃતમાં સમય દર્શાવે તે હેતુથી આ એકમ મૂકવામાં આવ્યું છે. ધોરણ 6માં વિદ્યાર્થીઓ સંસ્કૃતમાં ફક્ત પૂર્ણ સમય જણાવે તેટલું જ અપેક્ષિત છે.

પાઠ ૪ सड्ख्या વિદ્યાર્થીઓ एक થી द्वादश સુધીની સંખ્યાઓ શીખી ગયાં છે. સંખ્યાવાચક શબ્દ પછી वादनम् શબ્દ મૂકવાથી “આટલા વાગ્યા’ એમ સંસ્કૃતમાં કહી શકાય છે; જેમ કે, सप्तवादनम् – સાત વાગ્યા, द्वादशवादनम् – બાર વાગ્યા વગેરે.
