## Gujarat Board Textbook Solutions Class 6 Maths Chapter 14 Practical Geometry Ex 14.3

Question 1.
Draw any line segment $$\overline{P Q}$$ Without measuring $$\overline{P Q}$$, construct a copy of $$\overline{PQ}$$.
Solution:
Steps of construction:
Step I: Draw $$\overline{XY}$$ whose length is not known.
Step II: Draw a line 1 and mark a point R on it.
Step III: Open the compasses equal to $$\overline{XY}$$.

Step IV: Keeping the same opening, place the steel end of compasses at R and mark a point S on l.
Thus, $$\overline{RS}$$ is a copy of $$\overline{XY}$$.

Question 2.
Given some line segment $$\overline{AB}$$, whose length you do not know, construct $$\overline{PQ}$$ such that the length of $$\overline{PQ}$$ is twice that of $$\overline{AB}$$
Solution:
Steps of construction:
Step I: Draw a line segment AB of unknown length.

Step II: Place the steel end of the compasses at A and pencil end at B. this opening of the compasses gives the length of $$\overline{AB}$$.
Step III: Draw a line T and mark a point P on it.
Step IV: Without changing the openings of the compasses, place the steel end on P and mark a point R on l.
Step V: Now, place the steel end at R and keeping the same opening, mark another point Q on l.

Thus $$\overline{PQ}$$ is the required line segment whose length is twice that of $$\overline{AB}$$
i.e., $$\overline{PQ}$$ = 2$$\overline{AB}$$
