Yes, we sympathise with the Whites because the first wish Mr White made was out of curiosity and not knowing the consequences; but the next two wishes were made out of sheer necessity to save themselves.

What advice would you have given to the Whites after the first wish was fulfilled?
Answer:
We could have suggested that since they had experienced the terrible result of their first wish, they would not go for other two wishes as they might turn to be more disastrous.

Would you try to fulfil your wish with this paw? Why?
Answer:
Since the sergeant had already made them aware of the disastrous consequences, the paw could bring, I would not have dared to try to fulfil my wish however dire need it would be.

Excluding the residents of fantom-world, everybody knows the fact that there is no short cut to success, Still people try in vain to adopt short cuts. ‘There is no success without hard work’ is a proved fact. Short cuts often lead to disasters, so imagining success through short cuts is mere foolishness.

Answer:
If we try to seek benefits without putting in our efforts, it is a folly. Many a time, people run after seeking benefits without putting in their efforts and consequently they suffer great losses.
For example: people rush to buy cheaper things and they get broken or worn out so soon that the buyers have an intense feeling of loss suffered.

What information did Sergeant Morris give’ to the Whites about the monkey’s paw ?
Answer:
Sergeant Morris told the Whites that he had got the dried monkey’s paw which had a spell put on it while he was in India. An old fakir put t a spell on it and turned it into a talisman.
The fakir was a very holy man and wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives. If anybody tried to interfere with fate, it only caused deep sadness. Three separate men could have three wishes each from monkey’s paw with the spell on it.

What was the first wish demanded from the monkey’s paw by Mr White ? How was it carried out?
Answer:
Mr White held the paw in his hand l and wished for 200 pounds. The paw moved. It twisted in his hand like a snake and fell down. The next morning, a gentleman knocked on the door, introduced himself to be from a company in which their son was serving.
The visitor broke the news to the parents that their son, Herbert had met with an accident and was no more. Then he handed over an envelope containing compensatory amount of 200. Thus, Mr White’s wish was granted at the cost of his son’s life.

Answer:
Having lost their son Herbert in the first wish, Mr White was not ready to go for remaining two wishes, which he feared, could bring greater disasters. Yet when Mrs White insisted on going for the second wish, Mr White explained to her that Herbert had been dead for ten days then and his body might have been decayed beyond recognition, so it was impossible and foolish to make the wish to bring him back alive.

Answer:
Mr White had already asked for the second wish to get their son, Herbert back alive on the insistence of Mrs White. They heard knock on the door and Mr White could anticipate horrible results if his son turned back alive.

Answer:
The Mysterious Paw of the Monkey and its Effect: Once Mr and Mrs White collect a miraculous monkey’s paw, brought from India, from Sergeant Morris. Sergeant Morris tells them that they can demand three wishes from it, but also warns them not to try it out by demanding anything from it or it will bring disastrous results.
But Mr White wants to test its powers, so as a first wish, he demands 200 pounds. The next morning a man from the company, where their son is working, visits their house and breaks the message that their son is no more.
He hands over the envelope which contains the compensation amount. The Whites are greatly stunned. After getting recovered, on the insistence of Mrs White, Mr White demands the second wish that their son should return alive.
After a few minutes, there is terrible knock on the door Mrs White frantically rushes to open the door, but anticipating terrible consequences, once more Mr White takes up the paw in his hand and makes his third wish.
The sound of knocking on the door stops but the house starts collapsing. Both, Mr and Mrs White rush out towards the ground. The paw has brought them utter disaster. They are completely ruined.

Great Disasters Faced by Mr and Mrs White: Sergeant Morris had brought the magical monkey’s paw while returning from India. Mr and Mrs White were quite curious to have it and experience its effects.
Before handing over the paw to Mr and Mrs White, Sergeant Morris warned them that it could cause them trouble any time and it was not worth trying it out. But Mr and Mrs White could not restrain themselves and taking it in his hand, Mr White wished to have £ 200 pounds. The paw moved terribly in his hand and fell on the ground.
The next morning a man from their son’s office came and handed them an envelope with 200 pounds. But at the same time, he broke the news that their son, Herbert had died and the 200 pounds in the envelope was compensation – money.
Feeling terribly grieved Mrs White insisted that her husband should ask for another wish and that was to get their son alive. Quite reluctantly Mr White was compelled to do from the monkey’s paw and as a result, they heard knocking on their door.
Mrs White frantically rushed to open the door. It was all horrifying. Foreseeing the disastrous consequences, soon Mr. White found out the paw fallen on the floor and asked for the third wish that they did not want their son back.
The sound of knocking on the door stopped but there were sounds of cracks and thunder. The house collapsed. They rushed towards the ground and sighed in disappointment. They were completely ruined.
