āWish our boy alive again. Bring him back,ā cried the old woman. āIt is foolish and wicked,ā he faltered. āWish!ā repeated his wife. He took out the monkeyās paw and raised his hand. āI wish my son alive again.ā
The paw fell on the floor and after a few moments a knock was heard at the door. āWho could that be ?ā enquired Mr White. āThat must be my son.” replied the old lady and ran towards the door. āDonāt let it in, for Godās sakeā cried Mr White shivering in fear.
Answer:
Mrs White demanded the monkeyās paw as she wanted to make a wish and have her son back. She was hysterical and thought that since other two wishes had been fulfilled, she would make the third wish to have their boy alive again.
Mr White felt that it was foolish and wicked. But his wife insisted that he should make the wish : Mr White took the paw and raising his hand he made the wish that his son was alive again.
The paw fell on the floor and after a few moments a knock was heard on the door. Mr White wondered who that could be. The old lady guessed that it might be her son and ran towards the door.
Mr White was shivering in fear and prayed to God that it should not be allowed to enter the house.
