Reading Comprehension is evaluated in many ways. Asking students to transfer non-verbal data or information into verbal description is one of the ways to test and evaluate a student’s ability of understanding. Here are a few samples were done for the students how it can be done.
Question 1.
Study the ‘following flow chart and write the description in about six to seven sentences :

From the given flow chart. ft is very evident that the information pertains to the journey of a manuscript from its initial stage to the final printing of a look or a magazine. Manuscripts are collected from both students and teachers. They are thoroughly screened and edited, where necessary additions, alterations and omissions are made to the copy.
A rough draft is then prepared after which the manuscript Is sent to the printer along with a dummy. Then comes the stage of proof correction. After the corrections are made and the manuscript is proofread, it is sent for final printing.
Question 2.
Study carefully the following tree diagram about ‘Season in Maharashtra’. Write a short paragraph on the duration, work and the agricultural products available during the seasons in about 120 words:

Basically, Maharashtrians follow Marathi calendar. But in given tree diagram, seasons in Maharashtra is divided into three types: summer, monsoon and winter. Tree diagram also explain their duration, work and agriculture products available during the seasons.
Summer occurs between February to May. Farmers grow their field with wheat. Mangoes, Jack fruits are available in this season. Between the months of June to September, there is monsoon season. In this season sowing and nurturing crops are the basic works done by farmers.
During this season corn, leafy vegetables and pineapples are available. The Winter season occurs between months of October to January. It is the harvesting season for farmers. Rice, oranges and apples are available in this season.

Study the following table reporting the heights and weights of some boys in a certain school for qualifying to enter a football team and write about six to seven sentences based on it:

Bhupendra qualifies for a football team because he fulfils all the three conditions. Ravi misses because of his height which is 2″ less than what is required. Melvyn does not fulfil any of the three conditions. Aslam does not qualify because he doesn’t fulfil the condition regarding weight.
Gopalachari, too, is eligible because he fulfils all the three conditions. Navin misses the requirements by just one inch in height and four kg in weight. Melvyn is the only one who does not qualify by age. Ravi, Melvyn and Navin do not qualify by height. Only Bhupendra, Ravi and Gopalachari qualify by weight. But since Ravi does not qualify by height, only Bhupendra and Gopalachari fully qualify, meeting all the necessary requirements.

Study the following pie-chart showing the different methods used by the people of Mehsana to keep their teeth clean and write about six to seven sentences based on it:

The majority of the people in the town of Mehsana use the toothbrush to brush their teeth. Out of every hundred, 72 people use the toothbrush. 16 per cent of the inhabitants use neem twigs to clean their teeth. A small percentage of 6 uses the method of flossing to clean their teeth. 3 per cent only rinse their mouths and use no other method to keep their mouths clean. 2 per cent still use ash to clean their mouths. 1 % use other methods such as the finger, etc. to clean their mouths.

On Sunday it was cool and dry and the average temperature was 25 °C. On Monday the temperature was 32 °C and it was quite warm. On Tuesday the temperature rose by 1 °C. On Wednesday it was hot with the temperature being 36 °C. The temperature rose by 1 °C on Thursday.
Friday was a rainy day and the temperature dropped to 29 °C. Saturday was rainy and hot with the temperature rising to 32 °C. The early part of the week was on the whole cooler than the latter part of the week.

Study the following table giving information about the features of different makes of cars and write about six to seven sentences comparing the features based on the table:

The Ford is the least expensive. It has the same petrol consumption as the Toyota which is much more expensive than it. The Suzuki and the Toyota are more or less the same in most respects. Both are much more expensive than the Ford. Their engines are not as powerful as that of the Ford.
The Ford has an engine which is considerably more efficient than that of the Toyota and the Suzuki. The Hyundai is entirely different from the other cars. It is the most expensive of the four and has the highest petrol consumption. Of the four cars, Hyundai’s is the most powerful engine.

Study the following bar graph prepared from the data provided by class XA students about the months of their birth and write about six to seven sentences based on it:

The maximum number of 6 students were born in August. The month that recorded the second-highest date of births was May. The lowest month for date of birth was June. Only one student was born in June. The same number of students, i.e. 4, were born in the months of February, October, November and December. Only two students each were born in the months of March, April and July. Three students each were born in the months of January and September.

The family spends the highest amount of its income on food. The percentage is 25. It spends 15 % of its income on household items. The same amount of money is saved every year. The family spends equal amounts of money on items of clothing as well as on children’s education. 5 % of its income is spent on transport. Besides, the family has many other expenditures on which it spends about 20% of its income. The family spends the lowest amount of its income on transport.

Study the following bar graph showing the sale of Air conditioners by ‘Sales Gujarat’ from January to June in 2019 and write about six to seven sentences based on it:

From January to June ‘Sales Gujarat’ wins credit for doing handsome business in selling Air Conditioners. During January and February, they announced some tempting schemes and could sell almost 350 in January and 200 in February. With lifting the scheme they could not sell many Air Conditioners in March and April. But May’ was very hot and the sale reached its highest-a record sale of 400 Air Conditioners. The heatwave continued in June and they could sell almost 250 Air Conditioners even in June.

The mobile phone is a wonderful modern invention. It has many uses. Its most important use is as a phone that you can use wherever you go. It also has a voice mail facility which helps you record phone calls. Besides, it has the facility of a camera whereby you can click pictures. It also has the facility of radio and downloading music. You can send short SMS messages by the mobile phone. A recent facility is that mobile phones can be connected to a computer network and so you can also avail of the Internet facility.
