Activity 3.

For the teacher: Tell the story of ‘The Cap-seller and the Monkeys’ to the students. Ask them to listen to it carefully.

(A) Listen to the story.

There was a cap-seller. He moved around the whole day and sold colourful caps.
One day, the cap-seller was tired and thirsty. He sat down under a tree to rest. He kept his bag of caps next to him. Soon he fell asleep.

There were some monkeys living on that tree. The monkeys say the caps in the bag. They climbed down the tree and took the caps. They wore the caps and sat on the tree. After some time the cap-seller woke up. He saw his bag. It was empty. He looked up. He saw the monkeys sitting on the tree with the caps on their heads.

He decided to give the bird to the king as a gift. Just then a dove, Indra, fell near Shibi’s feet. It could not fly.

Then a hawk, Yama, came in chasing the dove. The king was very happy with the gift. The dove requested the king to save him. The hawk demanded for the dove. The king told the Prime Minister about the bird. The king said to the hawk, “Don’t kill the dove. I will give you meat as much as you want.” The Prime Minister did not v believe this and said to the king, “The people the kingdom will laugh at you.”
